October 2009
The Kern
River has not been stocked with fish.
The stock fish MIGHT eat the “Hard Headed Minnow.”
PLEASE! Help us restore fish stocking in the Kern River.
Simple Goal. Let us keep it simple.
Tuesday, October 13, 2009 Assembly Member Jean Fuller and
representatives from the California Department of Fish and
Game held an INFORMATIONAL ONLY meeting in Lake Isabella
concerning the DFG/USFWS Fish Hatchery & Stocking program
joint EIR/EIS. (Get your copy at the Kern River Valley
Chamber of Commerce office).
Bottom line is “There will be no fish stocking in the Kern
River”
As president of the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce, I
really don’t care about the “Hard Headed Minnow” or the “Red
Legged Frog. I care about the welfare of the merchants in
the entire Kern River Valley. I care about bringing tourists
(fish people) to our valley – they support our merchants. I
care about keeping the local fisher persons happy and here
in the valley to continue to support our economy.
Fishing brings people to the Kern River and Isabella Lake.
We need continued stocking to provide fish in the river for
all the people.
A lot of water (and emotions) have run down the river. That
water has gone under the bridge, sweeping the fish away. The
only question is – How do we “Help restore fish stocking in
the Kern River?”
Verbal comments, pro or con, angry or friendly, political or
neutral, do not count. ONLY WRITTEN comments count. We must
all write letters/send e-mails/or both. We must all voice
our positions. Many of you have already written, do it again
and again. Individuals, write about your experiences.
Organizations, write letters that include reports or member
surveys, Merchants, write about the economic impact of
fishing on your business.
Deadline for letters/e-mails is November 16,2009.
Wednesday, October 28,2009 – the HEARING on the DFG/USFWS
Fish Hatchery & Stocking program joint EIR/EIS will be held
in Bakersfield. This one counts. Your presence will make an
impact. There will be a free bus to and from the meeting,
but only if 50 people sign up to go. You may sign up at the
Kernville or the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce. You
may call in your information.
The Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce will assist you in
any way. We will even help you to write your letter.
I challenge each of you to ‘grab a pen’ and change our
corner of the world!
